  • International House Certificate in Teaching Very Young Learners

    The International House Certificate in Teaching Very Young Learners (IH VYL) is a teacher training course and certificate designed to prepare teachers of English as a foreign language to children between 2 and 7 years old.

    Who is it for?
      • Those who teach English as a foreign language to children between 2 and 7 years old.
      • Experienced teachers who want to further develop their skills to teach pre-literate/pre-school students
      • Teachers that have had some form of pre-service training in the teaching of ELT to adults (e.g. IHC / CELTA), possibly even the IH CYLT (International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and teenagers
    Aims
    • To introduce the principles involved in teaching Very Young Learners (VYLs)
    • To help trainees consider, evaluate and develop their own teaching skills in this area.

Content

The course comprises of 10 sessions which have been authored by experienced VYL professionals from around the IH Network and designed to incorporate a variety of processes and examples of activities and teaching methods which can be used in the classroom. This course is moderated by University of Cambridge Language Assessment.

Structure & Assessment
        • One written assignment
        • 10 input sessions of 90 minutes each
        • Pre-session reading tasks
        • Portfolio tasks

The final portfolio is moderated by the IH Assessment Unit.
